MARTHAELIN
I AM A THERAPIST WHO "GETS" GIFTEDNESS.

I have worked as a therapist with gifted clients and families for 15+ years.

I make community presentations to parents and schools about giftedness.

I have specialized training to meet the unique counseling and therapy needs of gifted, talented, and highly creative clients.

Professional resources include:  CAG and NAGC, SENG, and seminars with Dr. James Webb, Founder of SENG; Jerald Grobman, M.D.; Nadia Webb, Ph.D.; Linda Silverman, Ph.D.; Susan Daniels, Ph.D.; and my extensive professional library.
As an educator, in past years, I designed and coordinated the program for gifted students in a K-8 school district.  Teachers came from other parts of California to observe my classroom programs with differentiated instruction.

I have lived with gifted family members for 32 years.
"Our interactions can be serious and philosophical or focused on practical strategies for success."

 EDUCATION
• LMFT:  Calif. Board of Behavioral Sciences
• M.A. Psychology:  Chapman University
• Ed.D. Organization Behavior; Qualitative Evaluation; Learning:  U.C., Berkeley
• M.A. Education:  Stanford University
• Jungian Sandplay Practitioner, Certified:  Sandplay Therapists of America
• EMDR, Level II:  EMDR Institute

I pursue quality professional training to be current in the field of counseling and therapy for gifted and talented individuals and couples.
The unique qualities, gifts, and developmental challenges of human beings have been my primary interest from undergraduate through graduate and postgraduate studies in Psychology.  As a Licensed Therapist and Doctor of Education, I offer a unique blend of experience, expertise, and resources to gifted and talented adults, couples, and families.

Therapy with accelerated clients is highly interactive.  Sharing observations and  addressing ethical and, sometimes, existential questions are critical elements of the therapist-client interaction.  Addressing inner conflicts about being gifted is often a part of the experience.  As the therapist, I may need to wear the hat of mentor, coach, or advisor at different points in time.  Being flexible is essential!

In addition to Cognitive, Solution-Focused, and Psychodynamic therapies, I am trained in Jungian-based Sandplay, EMDR, Mind-Body, and Brain-Based therapies.  I incorporate these as appropriate to your needs and interests.
